Huber Engineered Woods Launches New Peel and Stick Roof Underlayment

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (February 8, 2022) – Leading building products innovator Huber Engineered Woods introduces ZIP System™ peel and stick underlayment, expanding its line of ZIP System™ Building Enclosure products. The self-adhered waterproofing roof underlayment provides an additional layer of protection against water intrusion due to ice dams or wind-driven rain. When applied in combination with ZIP System sheathing and tape, eligible projects can register for a Leak-Free Guarantee1.

Roof decks play a critical role in protecting a home against damaging roof leaks. ZIP System peel and stick underlayment can be applied on eaves, valleys or the whole roof to enhance the performance of this important asset. Featuring a pull cord, split-liner application, ZIP System peel and stick underlayment offers a smooth installation with no fasteners required. Plus, its rubberized asphalt technology seals around roof covering nails for a finished installation teams can trust during and after construction.

In fact, many building teams and their clients are choosing to build to high-performance guidelines provided by organizations like the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) through its FORTIFIED Home™ program, a voluntary set of above-code design, building and retrofitting standards to strengthen homes against severe weather. An important component of the program’s resiliency standards is a sealed roof deck. ZIP System sheathing and tape or peel and stick underlayment can be used to help meet FORTIFIED Roof™ sealed roof deck requirements. A successful evaluation and compliance with all IBHS program requirements is required for a FORTIFIED Roof™ designation. Homes receiving a FORTIFIED™ designation, may be eligible for insurance benefits.

ZIP System peel and stick underlayment products are applied to roof sheathing before the finished roof covering is installed and can be used in valleys, eaves, transitions or the entire roof. Available in standard and in some areas, a high temperature application option, ZIP System peel and stick underlayment products meet ICC-ES AC48 and ASTM D1970 requirements as an ice barrier and as a roof underlayment, as documented in ESR-4904.

“When roofs are built with ZIP System products, builders and homeowners can rest easy during and after construction,” said Matt Minchew, general manager of ZIP System roof assemblies. “Our latest peel and stick roof underlayment addition is one more example of how we strive to make versatile, compatible solutions for performance customers can trust.”
