AdvanTech® Flooring Voted No. 1 in Quality by BUILDER Magazine
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 10, 2014) – For the 13th year, builders have voted AdvanTech® flooring No. 1 in quality in BUILDER magazine’s annual Brand Use Study of builders’ favorite products.
AdvanTech flooring not only had the highest quality score in the Oriented Strand Board (OSB) category, but also the highest overall quality score – 6.46 on a scale of 1 to 7 – of over 450 brands across multiple product categories with quality scores included in the 2014 Brand Use Study, sponsored by Hanley Wood, the publisher of BUILDER magazine.
The study provides an in-depth look at the product brands builders recognize and use most often and how they rate the brands’ qualities. The report highlights respondents’ opinions about brands in 70 product categories, and AdvanTech flooring was voted to have the highest quality among subfloor brands.
“Being voted No. 1 in quality for over a decade is unprecedented recognition for a subfloor product,” said Jason Darling, general manager of AdvanTech flooring. “What makes this recognition even more rewarding is to know that builders and remodelers nationwide agree that AdvanTech flooring is the highest quality subfloor available for home construction.”
Huber Engineered Woods, maker of AdvanTech flooring, maintains an ICC-ES report (ESR-1785) for AdvanTech flooring to elevate it from other OSB and plywood subfloors. Product design attributes of AdvanTech panels, including bending strength, stiffness and fastener holding power, are documented in ESR-1785 as exceeding standard plywood and OSB PS-2 values.
The ESR-1785 designation confirms that AdvanTech panels have endured a battery of testing protocols that measure and ensure greater levels of panel strength, stiffness and fastener holding power, including:
- 62 percent better design bending strength than PS-2 value OSB or plywood.¹
- 28 percent better design bending stiffness than PS-2 value OSB.¹
- 16 percent better design bending stiffness than PS-2 value plywood.¹
- 10 percent better design fastener holding power than PS-2 value OSB and plywood.²
Chris Vegas, technology manager of AdvanTech flooring, said the operations teams at Huber mills in Georgia, Maine, Virginia and Oklahoma are focused on consistently delivering the highest quality product.
“Our manufacturing and research and development teams are continuously vetting new technologies, looking for innovative additions to Huber’s family of brands,” Vegas said. “Our technical and sales teams are invaluable resources for Huber’s customers as well, offering hands-on learning experiences for builders, remodelers and architects on the jobsite, lumberyard or one of our Huber locations.”
In addition, the use of advanced moisture-resistant resin technology applied throughout the panel ensures that AdvanTech panels will stand up to water during the construction process and defend against swelling, cupping and delamination. For more information, visit www.advantechperforms.com.

About AdvanTech® Flooring
AdvanTech® flooring delivers the total performance package of strength, fastener holding, moisture resistance, and quality. AdvanTech panels help eliminate floor bounce and squeaks by being manufactured to meet ESR-1785 specifications. This report documents the higher design strength of AdvanTech panels, which also feature fastener holding power to keep fasteners securely in place. These design values are documented in ESR-1785 found at www.icc-es.org. For moisture resistance, AdvanTech flooring, backed by a 500-day no sand guarantee and lifetime limited warranty, has one of the lowest water absorption rates in the wood structural panel industry. AdvanTech flooring has been voted number one in quality for 13 years by builders in a survey by BUILDER magazine. For more information visit www.advantechperforms.com.
